Which Way?

Filed under: Sharpen Your Sword — Tags: , — Greg Taunt @ 9:41 pm
  • Ezekiel 22:23-31
  • Our own way tends to move us away from God’s way.
  • It is not within man to direct his own steps- Jeremiah.
  • We need the backbone of the Lord. Our boldness is what is lacking.
  • Important Scriptures:
    • II Chronicles 7:14
    • Psalm 118:8
    • Colossians 3:10
    • Romans 12:2
    • Proverbs 29:23
    • Romans 12:16
    • Hebrews 13:5
    • Proverbs 12:15
    • Colossians 4:6
    • John 6:43
    • Psalm 66:13-14
    • Acts 24:16
    • I Corinthians 15:58
    • Deuteronomy 31:6
    • Colossians 3:23
    • Galatians 6:9
    • I Corinthians 16:13
  • Surrender to Christ brings boldness.

Hand It Over

  • I Peter 5:7
  • Cast your cares= handing over our anxieties to Christ and allowing Him to carry the burden of them.
  • Matthew 6:25-34
  • To be anxious= a distracting care
  • The root of anxiety is unbelief.
  • v.33- the key to balance in an unbalanced world.
  • Today’s grace is just for today. We tend to bring in other days and we get ‘out of balance.’

Finding the Real Us

  • Matthew 7:15-27
  • We spend a lot of money on decorating, adding ornaments, etc.
  • We do this to ourselves also– it can be hard to find the real ‘us’ under the layers we sometimes create.
  • When your dealing with trees, it may take some time, but you can always tell what kind of tree it is eventually– usually by what it produces (it’s fruit).
  • Hypocrite= a play actor; the real person behind the mask; a pretender.
  • Storms always reveal the quality of the work.
  • Some people have religion without a relationship– you can be active in the church and not be personally involved with Jesus Christ (John 17:3).
  • Romans 3:23 – We’ve all missed God’s mark.
  • Romans 6:23 – Eternal life is a free gift.
  • Romans 5:8 – Christ’s love won’t let you go.
  • Romans 10:9-10 – Confess and Repent
  • Romans 10:13 – Ask God to save you and He will.

The Danger of Worldly Wisdom

Filed under: Sharpen Your Sword — Tags: — Greg Taunt @ 8:46 pm
  • James 3:13-18; Colossians 2:8
  • In the beginning, worldly wisdom said, “Go ahead… Try it… It won’t hurt you…”
  • Worldly wisdom is limited– it doesn’t rely on the Holy Spirit.
  • True wisdom can be measured by the depth of one’s character (what they are on the inside). A person’s character DOES matter. How a person lives and acts matters.
  • Humility (strength under control) is a sign of wisdom.
  • Worldly wisdom is characterized by turmoil, disorder, selfishness.
  • Godly wisdom is peaceful, considerate, submissive, shows no favoritism and sincere (no hypocrisy).

More Than Happiness

  • I Corinthians 1:10-17
  • We were created to glorify God, not just to experience happiness– yet that seems to be our major goal many times.
  • Fellowship is essential– it’s deeper than “Let’s have lunch.” It’s spiritual in nature. Cliques are incredibly destructive to fellowship.
    • Matthew 22:37-38– A relationship with God is the foundation of fellowship.
    • Judges 17:6; 21-25– Jesus needs to be Lord (TOTALLY) of our life. Anything that hinders our relationship with Christ must be removed.
    • We can’t allow substitutes to replace a real relationship with Christ.
    • Isaiah 31:1– Going to the world for help never solves a problem totally; we must involve the Lord for true solutions.
  • Galatians 3:28, Isaiah 64:7, Exodus 33:1-3, John 15:5
