A mother asked her small son what he would like for his birthday.
“I’d like a little brother,” a boy said.
“Oh my, that’s such a big wish,” said the mother. Why do you want a little brother”?
“Well,” said the boy, “there’s only so much I can blame on my dog.”
I found this powerful image in a very old book. The idea is very cool. We, just like the young man, attempt to “play the game” using our own wisdom and our own methods, but the enemy is able to capture them. The game finally begins to change when the young man reaches for the cross.
The Game of Life
This is an incredible work of art that I was fortunate enough to see in person, at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, in the late 1990s. From what I can remember, it is carved entirely from a single piece of ivory. I’ve linked to some related information below the picture.
